Ward Potluck

On Sunday, June 27, 2010, we had another Ward Activity (there was also a combined activity with another ward on Saturday, June 26, but we didn't go to that one and hence have no photographic evidence at our immediate disposal that it even happened).

Anyway, there was a ward potluck at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Ferguson's house. There were many delicious food options, and even though it was a bit hot (and sunny, as evidenced in Joe Hawkin's squinty face in the following photograph), we still had a good time:

Ward Opening Social

On June 17, 2010, the Activities Committee sponsored the Ward Opening Social in Provo Canyon, where members got to make their own tin foil dinners and smores while getting to know each other a little bit better. Here are some photos from the evening:

Bishopric FHE June 14, 2010

We had quite an exciting Bishopric FHE at our home on June 14, involving a roaring, gasoline-enhanced BBQ (don't try that ever), kebabs, chocolate cake, chips, and egg tossing:

After a lesson on responsibility, people drew "babies" on eggs and then had the chance to show how careful and responsible they could be by tossing the baby egg back and forth to each other, getting farther and farther away from their partner with each toss. FHE and Activities

Although I don't have photos at my disposal for this post, I just wanted to recognize that FHE is doing really well in the ward under the leadership of Chad Lyons and Sabrina Sanchez. We had a great and well attended Memorial Day bonfire with smores and other treats at Nunn's Park in Provo Canyon last Monday! Thanks guys!

Also, the Activities Committee is gearing up for a big summer under the direction of Co-Chairs Chad Ruger and Darci Pearson. We will be having our opening Summer Social on June 17 in Hobble Creek Canyon. Get ready!

Presidency Changes

There have been a few changes in the organizations of the BYU 206 Ward, including...

1. The Sunday School Presidency, with Nathan Robinson as President, Bryce Arnell and Lehi Beltran as counselors, and Brittani Hunsaker as secretary.

2. The Relief Society Presidency, with Penny Wing as President, Sara Shawcroft and Angela Roberts as counselors, and Alyssa Walker as secretary.

Garden Party

On May 15, the Relief Society held a "Garden Party" at the Ferguson's home. President Baker, Stake President, came and taught us a great deal about gardening—spiritually and temporally. After a light lunch, we literally dug in and started preparing and planting! Here are some of the results of our efforts:

May Bishopric FHE

Although we can't speak for what Brother Ballard and Bishop Mackay did at their Bishopric FHE's on May 10, 2010, the Ferguson home was filled with lots of energy as we had a cook off with the members present.

Using many random (primarily food storage inspired) ingredients, each team had to create a dessert for the "judges" (Brother and Sister Ferguson).

The winning team made a concoction out of brownie and yellow cake mixes, pumpkin, peppermint chocolate sticks, butter, eggs, cereal, and oatmeal:

We had to give them the win for their extreme creativity (and the fact that it tasted surprisingly good!)

The other team created a delicious cinnamon bread/cake with apple pie filling, oil, and various other things that I can't remember now. They lost primarily due to a lack of using a key ingredient they had picked: coconut.

We talked about the importance of goals and preparing all things wisely. All in all, we had a good time (and ate proper, non-experimental food as well).

Elders Quorum International BBQ

On April 15, 2010, the Elders Quorum invited the Relief Society to an International BBQ potluck. (This followed the aforementioned Cupcake Night on April 1 and April 8's Salsa Night—April was a busy month for the 206 Ward!).

Although we (Brother and Sister Ferguson) couldn't stay to sample the actual BBQ, we did try some delicious food from other members of the ward. In this photo, we see the beginnings of the BBQ, started by Chad Ruger (now co-chair of the Activities Committee) and Sean Parker (current Ward Mission Leader).

Cupcake Night

In keeping with the Pie Night theme of 2009, the Relief Society, on April 1, 2010, held a cooking night with Jonathan Wing where he taught us how to make beautiful cupcakes:

Ward Leadership Update 2010

In early 2010, the Relief Society Presidency changed hands from Tanya Gale (President), Lindsay Jewel (Education Counselor), Heather Theodore (Enrichment Counselor), and Katee Anderson (Secretary) to Tanya Gale (President), Ashley DeRuyter (Education Counselor), Shayla Levin (Enrichment Counselor), and Katee Anderson (Secretary).

When winter semester came to a close at BYU, another change had to take place, and the new presidency is slowly taking shape with the following sisters sustained as of today: Penny Wing (President) and Sarah Shawcroft (1st Counselor).

The Elders Quorum also experienced many changes in 2010. At the end of 2009, it was led by Jonathan Landon (President), Sean Watson (1st Counselor), David Valenzuela (2nd counselor), with Yuri Cabeza as Secretary. In early 2010, the Elders Quorum shifted hands to David Garcia (President), David Valenzuela (1st counselor), and Jonathan Wing (2nd Counselor).

The end of winter semester also brought changes to the Elders Quorum, and we now have David Valenzuela as President with Lincoln Hansen (1st counselor) and Adam Black (2nd counselor).

Moses FHE

Pie Night

Way back on November 17, 2009, the Relief Society held a Pie Night in honor of the delectable dessert and its goodness. Deb Athay taught us all how to bake an apple pie, and we, of course, ate so many different types of pie that members of the Relief Society provided.

Halloween!

We were pretty festive for Halloween in the 206 ward. On October 26, the FHE hosted a ward pumpkin carving not-contest. Here we have Andres Orellana holding his "Pumpkin King" pumpkin. That was probably the best one, but I shouldn't judge since I didn't see them all.

Some ward members also attended the Barn Dance on October 31. Apparently over 1000 Stake members attended. If only we'd had that kind of attendance at Stake Conference!

Farewell to Summer BBQ

Now, I'm sorry to say that this activity, held on August 22 at Jolley's Ranch in Hobble Creek Canyon, seemed to be more well attended by the 189 ward than the 206th ward. However, we arrived late and still were blessed to eat tasty meat cooked by Bishop Mackay, corn on the cob, and orange-creme popsicles. Delicious.

Enrichment! I mean, Relief Society Meetings!

For those of you ladies who think you are "too busy" to go to the newly named "Relief Society Meetings" (fomerly "enrichment"), you are missing out. Heather Theodore and her committee have planned some lovely activities over the past few months, including salsa making with Sister Mackay, Sewing Group, Knitting Circle, and... soon to be coming... PIE NIGHT. Look for more photos in coming weeks!

Ward Summer Party

Way back on July 18, we had a combined 189/206 ward activity at Jordanelle Reservoir. For those of you who didn't attend, you missed out enjoying some of the best activities summer in Utah has to offer: free boating, swimming, crowding on tiny "beaches" together, and eating ward-cooked BBQ.

Ward Service Project

If you were brave enough to wake up at around 7:00 a.m. on Saturday June 20, you really should have come to Courage Reigns and helped out with the Ward Service Project. Sure, it rained and was a little cold, but we were able to weed, plant, and even help with an Eagle Project! Plus, we were still home in time to catch Provo's Farmers Market.

Don't let Logan fool you, though. He is not Logan's Mexican son/cousin. But really, come to activities just to meet him! He is great!

FHE

So, once a month the FHE groups meet at a home of one of the Bishopric members. You could have eaten these delicious treats if you went to the Ferguson's house. You still could someday.
